Fire and Emergency Medical Services
Fire and EMS in Tompkins County are provided by 16 agencies. Most are all or part volunteer organizations dedicated to the safety and welfare of their communities. Support for their activities is critical to their success. Donations are certainly one method of such support, but “people-hours” are also desperately needed.
Emergency responders have a wide range of responsibilities. They participate in
- emergency preparedness planning
- public education
- fire suppression
- pre-hospital medical care
- ambulance transport
- traffic control at accident scenes
- hosting community activities at their facilities
Many different types of skills are necessary for the functioning of these organizations, so, even if you don’t want to fight a fire or drive an ambulance, there may be other skills that you have that could be of benefit to them. Please become familiar with the agency that serves your community and support them in any way you can.
